Lowell History Conference - Spring 2025

The idea is to hold a Lowell history conference in April or May 2025 as a runup to the birthday year. As envisioned, this would be a collaboration across the Lowell k-12 schools, Middlesex Community College, UMass Lowell, the Lowell Historical Society, Pollard Memorial Library, and Lowell National Historical Park. Topic guidelines will be developed for students, staff, and educators to engage in research on aspects of the city’s history as well as the history of the region predating Lowell’s founding. Projects could take the form of video presentations, photography, artwork, and research papers. Specific guidelines and deadlines will be developed by a working group in early 2024. The working group will select from among the proposals submitted and work with researchers/presenters to get ready to present their work at a one or two-day conference in Spring 2025. A call for participants will be issued in early 2024 so that there is adequate time for work to be completed. Anyone interested in being involved in conference planning should notify Bob Forrant, UMass Lowell history department at: Robert_Forrant@uml.edu.
