Land Acknowledgement
A land acknowledgement is a statement that respects and affirms our continued connection to indigenous people as the original stewards of the land where what is now known as Lowell, Massachusetts now covers. A land acknowledgement honors the complex and difficult history of this country that has impacted native peoples.
This land acknowledgement is offered as part of Lowell’s Bicentennial with humility and as an opportunity to learn and reflect together.
The city of Lowell is on the original homeland of the Pennacook and Wamacit communities.
We acknowledge the genocide and systems of oppression that have disposed indigenous people of their lands, and we honor and respect the diverse and beautiful people still connected to this land.
